Logickeyboard ASTRA 2 Large-Print White-on-Black Wired Keyboard (Windows, US English)

Logickeyboard Astra 2 Overview

The Logickeyboard ASTRA 2 Large-Print White-on-Black Wired Keyboard features an elegant, black keyboard with low-profile scissor-switch keys for a light, yet responsive feel. With five selectable light levels, the ASTRA 2 is the perfect choice for any lighting conditions. The keyboard features a USB 3.0 hub to enable you to connect a mouse, phone, contour shuttle, or a USB dongle.

The ASTRA 2 keyboard is developed with two USB cables: a gray one for the keyboard itself, and a black one for the USB hub to avoid problems with installations that require a KVM extender. In addition, the ASTRA 2 has a full-sized F-row and multimedia keys to provide full control and effectiveness.

To power the keyboard, you need to plug in the gray USB connector. If you need to activate the USB hub on the back of the keyboard, plug in the black USB connector. This keyboard features large letter, number, and symbol labelling to suit users with impaired vision. The keyboard is easy to plug in and requires no software installation.

    Feels indestructible - love it

I've only owned a few dedicated Avid Keyboards myself but I've used all shapes and sizes working almost solidly on rented systems since Avid arrived. I used Lightworks first. This the best keyboard I've used and I'm really happy to have found it.

    Great for tactile edit editing

This backlighted keyboard is what I have always wanted in my years editing in dark suites! The keyboard is not lightweight and stays where you put it. It has helped me tremendously in my switch to DaVinci Resolve faster than a "cheat sheet". While I understand that using USB type A connections is probably the most universal thing in an era of changing technology, I am a bit perplexed by it having a USB2 and a USB3 plug in one cable versus one USB3 and an internal hub in the keyboard? All in all, the cable is sturdy and should last for years of hard work. Since I already have the Blackmagic Speed Editor, this keyboard seems like a more logical choice than the BM for the dedicated keys and of course I have a Jog wheel and additional buttons for editing. It looks great sitting on the desk and lends itself to the professional image that I want to project to my clients.

Purchased this keyboard about a week ago. Like the shortcut overlays on the keys. The lighted keys is a plus. So much better than the keyboard that came with my $6000 iMac. Would have been nice to have bluetooth connection, but not that big of a deal.

    A total disappointment

The layout is great but after using the keyboard for about 6 months the ALT key fell off. Now when I switch on the computer I cannot log in for the keyboard behaves like a key is continuously being pressed down. I am now using my old keyboard while I try to sort out what is wrong. Very frustrating.

This keyboard is very good for using and learning the shortcuts in Resolve. The only con is that the backlight should be a little brighter.

    A surprisingly effective productivity-enchancer

I am a working pro with AE, 15 years as a full-time motion designer. That whole time I have worked on full-size Apple Pro keyboards. My last Apple keyboard gave up the ghost and I felt like the price to replace it was excessive, so I took a look around and discovered this. I have found it to be is surprisingly helpful. Like most AE old-hands, I use the keyboard as my primary interface with AE- there are everyday things that I actually don't know how to do using the menu commands or the mouse (which I discovered as my old Apple keyboard started failing!). This keyboard helps me locate the key commands faster, and better yet, it does a great job of reminding me of key commands that I don't use every day and can't always quite recall from memory. This has definitely sped up my AE workflow. The keys themselves are nice. I find it to be a nice keypress, positive and clicky but without too long of a throw or too crazy of a click. This is a matter of personal taste, of course. The printing is lovely, vibrant, and precise, and that backlight! Oh man, if you like a darkened edit suite vibe to your workspace, you are in for a treat. On the negative side, it is really really busy visually, so if you are not a touch typist (i.e. you hunt and peck for keys) this might drive you nuts when using it for email and word processing. The build quality is OK but not magnificent. It is all plastic, not too chintzy but also definitely a downgrade from an Apple keyboard. It sits higher on the desk than an Apple keyboard, which might be a big plus if you like wrist rests. The caps lock has a PC style light at top left instead of an Apple-style light on the key, which is taking me a while to get used to, but otherwise it has been an easy transition. The included documentation was lackluster- it came with a business card with a URL on it for a cheat sheet to the color coding on the keys, for at this price that critical documentation really should have come printed in color on paper. Overall the durability will be the true test, but my initial impressions are very positive. I have spent way, way more on tools that didn't enhance my productivity nearly as much (I'm look at you, Wacom).
